Studying inflammation, from its origins to its consequences

The Institute for Translation Research in Inflammation (called INFINITE) is a single-team and single-theme unit focusing on inflammation, from its origins to its consequences within the context of chronic inflammatory diseases.

Since 2020, INFINITE is an attractive unit entirely focused on our core interest - inflammation, from its origins to its consequences - and which develops innovative biomarkers and treatments for patients with chronic inflammatory diseases. The latter (also referred to as immune-mediated inflammatory diseases, IMIDs) encompass a broad range of diseases affecting various organs, including digestive tract diseases (IBDs like Crohn’s disease (CD) and ulcerative colitis (UC)), liver diseases, and systemic IMIDs like systemic sclerosis (SSc). Centers focusing on inflammation are scarce in France. INFINITE constitutes a unique opportunity to form a multidisciplinary group focused on chronic inflammatory diseases that uses digestive tract and systemic IMIDs as models to develop research on inflammation.

Moreover, INFINITE is fully integrated in a stimulating environment that significantly structures the research on inflammation in Lille - a major strategic axis for our supervisory institutions. Indeed, INFINITE closely collaborates and cooperates with:

  1. The clinical departments and the PRECISE and 1000 Days for Life university hospital federative projects (FHUs) at Lille University Hospital,
  2. A European non-profit research foundation (DigestScience),
  3. A biotech company (Intestinal Biotech Development),
  4. The federative research structure (SF2I) and its link to the Center for Infection and Immunity of Lille (CIIL) at the Institut Pasteur de Lille,
  5. Companies and technology transfer organizations,
  6. National and international scientific networks, patient associations and other contributors to the local scientific environment.
